University of Virginia Charlottesville

Kevin Lynch is a Professor and the Vice-Chair of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia Charlottesville.

His long term research goal is to increase understanding of the biology of the lipid mediator, sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P), with an emphasis on identifying those S1P signalling nodes that are viable drug targets using novel chemical probes. His concentration on lipid mediators arose from studies of orphan GPCRs. The first studies characterised lysophosphatidic acid receptor modulators.

The focus then shifted to the related lysophospholipid, S1P. Working first with S1P receptor agonists and antagonists, more recent studies concentrate on S1P synthesis (sphingosine kinases 1 and 2) inhibitors and S1P transport (SPNS2, MFSD2B) blockers.

Kevin Lynch has co-authored over 170 peer-reviewed papers and he is an inventor on 30 issued U.S.patents.
