Christopher Southan


Chris has been a senior chemo-informatician for the BPS/IUPHAR Guide to PHARMACOLOGY on the database curation team at the Centre for Integrative Physiology, University of Edinburgh, UK since 2013, working remotely from Göteborg Sweden. Prior to this, he set up TW2Informatics, engaging in patent data consulting for SureChem (2011-12) and an assignment in the AstraZeneca Knowledge Engineering Program for testing and documenting global applications (2009-11). Before that, he coordinated the ELIXIR Database Provider Survey at the EBI, was a principle scientist and Bioinformatics team leader in AstraZeneca, Mölndal, and held senior bioinformatics positions at Oxford Glycosciences, Gemini Genomics and SmithKline Beecham. His publications (75 PMIDs and 20 patents) encompass, pharmacology, protein targets, drug discovery and bioactive chemistry databases. He studied biochemistry at Dundee University (UK) virology at Reading University (UK) and did his PhD at Ludwig-Maximillian University of Munich (Germany).
